Our time in the cramped minivan was finished. We hopped on a Tuk Tuk to get to the Green Leaf Boutique hotel. As we passed through the busy streets of Siem Reap, I thought to myself that this could be a cool place. Our destination was finally in sight. The hotel was very nice it had a stylish pool. The rooms were really nice. It had a large bed, a nice T.V, the bathroom was good. We had arrived at about 6:30pm, so we ate at the restaurant. I had beef Lok Lak, a local speciality of beef with a lime and pepper sauce. The next day when I woke up I was very excited because we were going to see the brand new Star Wars, Star wars the force awakens. The movie was playing at 3:30 until then we hung out by the pool. My dad and I got some popcorn and we took a seat in the theater. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I’d put it as the best of all the star wars movies in my opinion.

Nous voilà arrivés à Siem Reap, Cambodge, plus de minibus pour un bout de temps où tu es coincé entre les personnes et les bagages! Nous sommes montés dans un tuk tuk pour un court trajet jusqu’à notre hôtel la Feuille Verte. Regardant les rues je me suis dit que j’allais me plaire ici. L’hôtel était très bien quand tu rentres tu vois la piscine, notre chambre était bien décorée et large avec une grand eTV et des chaines en anglais. Comme il était déjà tard, nous avons pris le dinner au resto, j’ai pris une spécialité locale Boeuf Lok Lak (sauce au poivre citronnée) et je me suis régalé. Le lendemain, c’était la sortie du dernier film de la série Star Wars, nous sommes allés le voir à la séance de 3.30 en 3 D. Comme nous avions du temps et qu’il faisait chaud nous nous sommes baignés. J’ai eu droit à du popcorn que j’ai partagé avec mon père. Je ne veux rien dévoiler mais à mon avis c’est le meilleur de tous. 

Siem Reap in Cambodia is famous for the Angkor temples, but I didn’t even know about them until we arrived in Siem Reap. Just the first glimpse that I took of Angkor Wat was just so spectacular, beautiful and amazing, but we couldn’t go in because we arrived too late, you are allowed to buy your ticket for the next day at 5.00pm but they close at 5.30 it was very short. Then we headed back for the hotel. The next morning my mother woke us up early for homework. After finishing we spent the rest of the day at the pool. On the 4th day we woke up at 4:30 to catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat. After we saw other temples of the city of Angkor. It was all so amazing. How some of the carvings were still there. Ta Prohm temple was pretty crippled, and had amazing trees growing on it. Another had incredibly steep steps. Others had statues of elephants, and Lions. At the gateway of Angkor Thom there was almost a recreation of the churning of the milk ocean. The demons pulling on the 7 headed snake, with the Buddha’s doing the same. Angkor Thom was created by King Jayavaram IIV. One temple had elephants and lions (the lions always look like dogs with a helmet).

La ville de Siem Reap est connue pour ces temples d’Angkor. Je ne savais pas qu’ils existaient avant d’arriver ici. Dès que j’ai posé mes yeux sur Angkor Vat j’ai compris que j’en garderai un souvenir toute ma vie. Tu peux acheter tes tickets la veille après 17.00 pour le lendemain nous avons juste eu le temps de voir Angkor Vat mais pas de le visiter. Retour à l’hôtel pour une soirée calme. Réveil assez tôt par ma mère car il faut faire des devoirs! L’après midi on a eu droit de se baigner. Finalement le jour suivant nous nous sommes réveillés à 4h30 du mat pour voir le lever du soleil sur les temples. Nous avons vu beaucoup de temples différents plus impréssionnant les uns que les autres. Par example Ta Keo avait des escaliers très très pentus pour monter en haut de la pyramide ça faisait un peu peur. Ta Prohm est le temple où les arbres poussent sur les murs, avec leurs racines géantes. Certains avaient des statues d’éléphants comme la Terrasse des Elephants, d’autres des statues de lions qui ressemblaient plus à des chiens avec un casque! Le temple d’Angkor Thom crée par le Roi Jayavaram IIV, à l’entrée des 4 portes de la ville il y a une série de serpents tirés par des Buddhas ou les démons.  

There was a temple that looked like the layers were stacked on one another. I decided not to go to the water temple the others went, I was getting templed out! After visiting a few other temples it started getting dark so we headed back. The next morning I was up and early to do homework again. When I finished I took a nice swim in the pool. The following day we saw an incredible circus act. They did amazing stunts, at one point on was spinning a flaming stick. In the story the performers had to get rid of the ghost’s. The ghosts were incredibly flexible and did amazing tricks on ribbons. One performer stacked a cylinder on top of another one and put a plank of wood and did a hand stand on it. The amount of balance, strength, and flexibility they had was amazing.

L’architecture des temples était assez unique, même s’ils se ressemblaient ils étaient tous différents, je garde le souvenir d’un où on avait l’impression que c’était des étages comme un gâteau de mariage. Après pas mal de temples, je suis resté avec notre chauffeur quand mes parents et ma soeur sont allés visiter le temple sur l’eau. Puis la nuit a commencé à tomber et on et rentré. Le lendemain c’était devoir le matin et piscine dans l’après midi. Un soir nous avons vu un cirque, j’ai adoré, ils étaient jeunes, très souples et marrants. Leurs acrobaties m’ont tenu en haleine, ils étaient de bon équilibristes.

The passing day we took our second visit of the Angkor temples. The first one we visited was Bantey Srei (ban-tay Shray) which was supposed to have the greatest carvings of all the temples. Which it did. The statues were complete the carvings looked untouched which is something. After we saw the Bayon. It was full of faces. On every tower were 4 faces facing North, East, South, West. The faces represented a Hindu deity that was presented with 4 faces. The temples of Angkor are so magnificent and large. Another temple had incredible statues, bird like creatures, with the monkey god. It had a wall covered in Buddha’s. After seeing those we headed for Angkor Wat. As we walked through the walls were covered with the story of the Ramayana. It was all carved in stone, unlike the one at the grand palace in Thailand that was painted. After finishing Angkor wat we went back to the hotel. I spent the rest of the day at the pool and packing my bags. After we moved to the Hima boutique hotel. We ate a restaurant called the sugar palm for Christmas Eve. It was really good but there was this little girl that was shrieking. In my head I was feeling like I just wanted to throw her of the restaurant balcony. On Christmas day we ate at the Annexe, a French restaurant it was really good. I had a lamb rack with a side of pasta. And for dessert I had vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate with these cookies covered in chocolate and hazelnuts. The day after Christmas we walked around town to get our last glimpse of Siem Reap.

Nous avons continué la visite des temples. Nous sommes allés à Banteay Srei car apparemment ils ont les plus joli sculptures sur les façades. Et c’est vrai nous pouvions voir beaucoup de détails. Après nous avons visité le Bayon avec tous les visages de Buddhas. Sur toutes les tours il y a fait un visage identique orienté Nord, Sud, Est, Ouest. Les visages représentaient un Dieu Hindu aux 4 visages. Les temples d’Angkor sont vraiment magnifiques et de très grande taille, cette fois ci il y avait des statues d’oiseaux et de singes. De retour à Angkor Wat, nous avons fait le tour du temple avec ses murs sculptés de bas reliefs racontant l’histoire edu Ramayana (j’en ai parlé dans le bloc sur Bangkok la visite du Grand Palais). Puis retour à l’hôtel, pour se reposer et faire nos valises. Nous avons du changer d’hôtel ca le Green Leaf était complet, nous sommes allés au Hima Boutique Hotel. La veille de Noël nous avons mangé dans un restaurant le Sugar Palm, de le très bonne cuisine Cambodgienne, il y avait une fille d’au moins 6 ans qui a fait un caprice, je voulais la jeter par dessus la balcon, ce n’est pas une manière de se comporter! Le jour de Noël nous avons mangé à l’Annexe un restaurant français, un peu cher mais bon c’était Noël et c’était très bon, même les desserts, j’avais commandé une Dame Blanche servie avec de très bon petits gateaux aux noisettes. Notre dernier jour, nous avons fait le tour de la ville.

Siem Reap is a very lively and cool town. They have a night market, a street just for restaurants. But the following day we had to leave for Bangkok. As the minivan was an hour late (as it always is) came and dropped us off at the border. First we had to stand in a line which took 3 hours just to get our hand scanned. Then we went into the Thai customs which thankfully didn’t take very long. What the the people told us when we got our tickets said that there would be a van waiting for us. Then the guy told us 5 min to wait which was 40 min, then we told him could we go to a restaurant and sit in comfort instead of standing in trash. He just said everybody else can wait why can’t you. That really made me angry. Then it finally came and it was off to a place that we could eat and then it was off to Bangkok.

La ville de Siem Reap est très vivante et il y a beaucoup de choses à faire. Tous les soirs, il y a un marché de nuit et des restaurants avec de la musique. Il était temps de quitter la ville et direction Bangkok. Un long voyage en minivan en perspective, surtout à la frontière où le folklore commence avec les longues queues pour passer l’immigration et l’attente du prochain minivan pour la fin du trajet. On a attendu facilement 2h30 après la frontière Thai pour monter dans ce dernier minibus, en fait le gars nous disait que le minivan serait là dans 5 min après 40 bien sûr toujours pas de van, finalement ils nous ont amené à un autre point où on a attendu encore une bonne heure. Je déteste ces moments là.
