Jayden takes on the Vatican

When we first arrived in Rome I thought to myself these Romans drive like madmen. They drive very bad, very fast and park everywhere. We were very lucky to find a parking spot near where we stayed. We met the owner of the apartment, her name was Marina and she showed us around town then let us get settled in. Her place was much bigger and nicer than any other of the places we’ve stayed in, it had an actual living room, a nice kitchen, and 2 bedrooms. After we got settled in we took the metro to the Coliseum. It was huge, it was constructed for Titus the successor of Vespasian the Emperor. It is considered one of the greatest works of architecture ever made. My father, sister and I decided to take a visit inside. The Coliseum was very different than the outside. The actual arena is very small considering the games that had to be performed in it. Like Chariot races, gladiator fights, or games where they ordered prisoners in, then let lions enter to kill the prisoners.

Nous sommes arrivés à Rome, et là surprise les Romains conduisent comme des fous! Ils roulent trop vite, se garent n’importe où. Nous avons eu de la chance de trouver une place près de l’appartement que nous avions loué. La propriétaire s’appelait Marina, elle nous a montré le quartier puis nous a laissé les clefs. Son appartement était bien plus grand que tous les autres où nous avons séjourné. Il avait un grand salon, deux chambres vraiment bien. Nous avons pris le métro pour visiter le Colisée. Il était énorme, il a été construit pour Titus le successeur de l’empereur Vespasien. Cet édifice est considéré comme une oeuvre majeure d’architecture. Je l’ai visité avec mon père et ma soeur. L’intérieur était très différent de l’extérieur, il paraissait presque petit par rapport à l’enceinte extérieure. La piste n’est pas très grande par rapport à tout ce qui se passait dedans (course de chariots, bataille de gladiateurs, et même des lions étaient lâchés contre des prisonniers ).

People in Roman times put graffiti by carving the name of their favorite gladiator in the stone, or carving a picture. It was the biggest Coliseum ever built at the time, it could fit 40-70 thousand people.We saw the Forum too, but there are only a few columns still up. So it was hard to see what it was supposed to be. We left by Metro to the central market to get gelato at one of Rome best gelaterias, Baccio. It made me feel like☺, and not like that☹. After that, we went to see the Pantheon it was very cool. It is the best preserved Roman building. During this trip I am in charge of the Gopro camera. We went inside I took a picture that was straight up at the ceiling.

Les Romains gravaient les pierres à l’intérieur du nom de leur gladiateur préféré. C’est le colisée le plus grand jamais construit à cette époque, il pouvait contenir jusqu’à 70 000 personnes. Nous avons aussi vu le Forum mais il ne reste que quelques colonnes donc il était plus difficile de se faire une idée sur la grandeur des édifices. Après cette visite, nous nous sommes rendus vers le marché central déguster une glace italienne dans l’une des meilleures Gelateria de Rome, Baccio. J’ai adoré. nous avons aussi visité le panthéon, c’est l’édifice Romain le mieux préservé. Durant ce voyage, je ferais les photos avec le Gopro, un appareil photo qui prend des photos ou videos avec un grand angle.

The Gopro allows you to take wide-angle pictures or videos. We only stayed enough time so we could take a few pictures. Then we went to Piazza Navona where there were statues made by Bernini a very famous artist. We continued walking until we reached Campe di Fiori a market where we bought a fruit smoothie that had mango, papaya, oranges, and pomegranate. Back at the apartment I did some of home work, Megawords and maths. The next day we saw The Vatican museums it was very amazing to see. We started touring the Egyptian section which had very interesting things in it like a mummy that we could see. Its face was very ugly and its skin was a very dark brown and had the consistency of leather. They explained how the Egyptians did a Mummy(like take the organs out and put them in jars, and got the brain out with a hook). They had beautiful sarcophagi.

Nous nous sommes promenés place Navona, très connue de forme ovale avec des statues de Bernini. Nous avons bu un smoothie frais au marché Campo del Fiori, fait de mangues, de jus de grenadiers, papayes et oranges. De retour à l’appart, j’ai du faire des devoirs de maths et de grammaire. Le jour suivant, nous avons visité les musées du Vatican. C’était très impressionnant, la visite a commencé par la salle d’Egypte. Il y avait une mommie (il y avait des expliquations sur la momification, comment ils enlevaient les organes, puis le cerveau avec un crochet enfilé par le nez!), des sarcophages, des statues de granites. Tout provenait d’Egypte du temps de l’occupation Romaine.

There were statues of Egyptian gods that were made of granite the hardest rock to sculpt with. All the pieces came directly from Egypt when the Romans had invaded it. We saw the Sistine Chapel that was painted by Micheal Angelo it was very beautiful, on the first wall he painted a priest that was skinned alive I would have put a picture but since the room was dark you needed to put flash on your camera and if you take the picture it destroys the paintings. Nobody is allowed to take pictures inside this room. The famous picture of Adam almost touching fingers with god is on the ceiling, it means that Adam was the first human and when he touches fingers with god he is giving life to humanity. There were also other sculptures of Micheal Angelo but other rooms. We saw paintings by Rafael too. There was a room that had forty maps of Italy, all painted by hand, finished in only 18 months. In another room, we saw bath tubs made of granite.

Nous avons vu la chapelle Sistine peinte par Michael Angelo, on ne pouvait pas prendre de photos à l’intérieur pour ne pas endommager les fresques. C’est la photo la plus connue entre le doigt d’Adam qui touche presque Dieu (Dieu donne la vie en touchant Adam). J’ai été impressionné par la peinture d’un prêtre dépecé. Il y avait d’autres salles avec des sculptures de Michael Angelo mais aussi des peintures de Rafael autre très grand peintre. Il y avait un couloir avec 40 cartes de l’Italie, tous peints à la main. Il a fallu 18 mois pour finir cette pièce.

We saw St. Peters basilica it was amazing. The architecture was of stunning statues of popes and their tombs. It had magnificent paintings. The ceiling was incredible just by itself, it was painted and the moldings were painted gold.

Nous avons visité la basilique Saint Pierre. L’architecture était grandiose avec les tombeaux de certains papes et les statues de la vierge. Le plafond était impressionnant, peint et orné de dorures.

It is the biggest basilica ever built. I forgot to tell you how long we waited to get in !!! We queue for 1 hour, but the result was worth the wait. The Pope is guarded by Swiss guard wearing a funny outfit. Our stay in Rome was great but we have to leave for the Amalfi coast.

C’est la plus grande basilique jamais construite. J’ai oublié de mentionner la queue qu’on a du faire pour rentrer dedans, 1 heure!! J’ai beaucoup ralé mais en fait ça valait la peine. Le pape est gardé par les gardes Suisses, ils ont un costume que je n’aimerai pas porter. En route pour la côte Amalfitaine…

Jayden’s Tuscany

We arrived in the countryside of Tuscany. We found the place we rented. The first day, we settled in and took it easy, we bought groceries and explored just around. The next day, we visited Sienna and its big central square where there is the grand horse race between the different quarters of the town. The locals are very passionate about it, it happens twice a year. The following day we did homework, and hang out at the pool. I am working on my blogs and Mega words books. The pool was really cold but refreshing. How do like my Roman outfit? We took it easy and stayed home a lot.

On est à la campagne cette semaine, notre petite maison est au bout d’une piste de 4 km. Le premier jour, on s’est installé, on a fait quelques courses et des devoirs. On a visité Sienne et sa grande place. On prend la vie plus relax ici, mais du coup je dois faire plus de devoirs, et parfois on va à la piscine l’après midi.La piscine est une peu fraîche. Comment trouvez vous mon costume de Romain?Je travaille aussi sur mes blogs.

Another day, we went to Pisa. The tower does really lean we did photos where it looked like we were holding the tower up. When we finished visiting the town we went to Lucca, it is an ancient fortress and we rode bikes on top of the fortified walls. The bikes did really help, I really enjoyed it, it was more fun than always walking.

Un autre jour, on est allé à Pise, je pensais que la tour ne penchait pas trop mais quand on arrive sur place on s’en rend vraiment compte. Puis nous sommes allés à Lucca, super ville, on avait loué des vélos et on s’est baladé dans la ville. Elle a une place qui fait comme une arène.

We also visited some small stoned villages around us like Voltero, San Gimignano. There we bought porcheta meat (they cook a whole pig then slice it), it was very good.

On a visité les villages alentour, comme San Gimignano ou Voltero, villages en pierre en hauteur.

We did some little walks. One night when we were coming back from town we saw six wild boars crossing in front of our car, and 2 foxes. I have told you about our stay in Tuscany, our next stop is Rome.

On s’est promené dans la campagne alentour. En rentrant d’un restaurant une nuit, on a croisé deux renards et un groupe de 5 sangliers a traversé la route. Prochain stop Rome.

Jayden discovers Florence

We arrived in Florence on September 6. We took a taxi instead of having to carry my giant heavy bag across all the streets, which made me happy. The apartment was okay it, was noisy. We went to see the Pitti palace, it was the residence of the Duke of Florence. He was a very powerful person and had a huge palace. There was a painting exhibit of Carlo Dolci’s work. The paintings were usually religious or portraits. The portraits were good, they looked very real. They had lots of details like lace and he was able to make the gold and silver shine like real. For me it was too much paintings. When we finished to see the paintings we went to see the Boboli gardens, they are the gardens of the palace. They were just trimmed hedges that were in the form of tiny easy mases with fountains.

There was a huge fountain the shape of a bathtub for a giant, and an obelisk from Egypt. There was a tiny pond that had black fish in it. We saw the Duomo the (Duomo is a very big church that is made from marble some was green and another was a reddish orange, there was white marble to. They all created a pattern). They built it because they wanted a church bigger than their neighbors, Siena or Pisa. We walked for a little, then we decided to have paninis for lunch. We saw the statue of Dante the Roman emperor on the piazza San Croce in front of a pretty church. He made Florence a town of importance. His face looked very angry. We had dinner at the market, my dad ordered a huge steak Florentin, I got a very good burger. Florence did have nice architecture, with lots of churches, palaces, paintings and sculptures. The next day we left for the Tuscan countryside by car. We are staying in the small village of Casole d’Elsa.
Nous sommes arrivés a Florence, le 6 spetembre. Nous avons pris un taxi, super comme ça je n’ai pas eu a porter mes sacs qui sont lourds. Notre appartement était ok, mais un peu bruyant quand même. Nous avons visiter le Palais Pitti, il avait une exposition sur le peintre Carlo Dolci. Ses peintures étaient généralement des peintures à thème religieux ou des portraits. Il était très doué pour peindre les détails comme la dentelle ou les bijoux en argent ou en or. C’etait très réalistique. J’ai trouvé qu’il y avait beaucoup trop de peintures, ça a duré longtemps. Apres nous avons visité les jardins attenants qui s’appellent les jardins Boboli. Ils étaient composés d’allées séparées par des arbres ou arbustes diffèrents pour faire comme un labyrinthe avec des fountaines de temps en temps. Il y avait même une fontaine comme une baignoire pour géant et aussi un obelisk ramené d’Egypte.
Le lendemain nous avons visité le Duomo grande cathédrale de Florence avec un guide. Sa façade est faite en marbre vert, blanc et orange. Elle a été construite car les gens importants de Florence voulait avoir une cathédrale plus grosse que leurs voisins( Sienne et Pise entre autre). Nous avons parcouru la ville à pied, et nous avons mangé des paninis pour le lunch. Puis nous sommes allés à la piazza San Croce, devant l’église il y avait une statue de l’empereur Romain Dante qui a donne de l’importance à la ville. Le soir, nous avons mangé aux halles, c’était super, mon père a commandé un steak florentin (côte de boeuf) mais moi j’ai mangé un bon hamburger. Florence est une jolie ville avec des palais, des églises, des statues et beaucoup de peintures.
Demain nous partons pour la campagne, nous y allons en voiture. Le petit village s’appelle Casole d’Elsa.

Melia’s Venetian Holiday

We had a very pleasant stay in Venice, and I cannot wait to go back there. When I arrived there for the first time, I was awestruck. It was as beautiful as the pictures on the postcards! The Grand Canal was busy with small boats and gondolas. The buildings on the side were colorful and their windows scalloped. But what surprised me the most was the quietness of the city. I never realized that the lack of cars could make such a big difference. After we boarded the Vaporeto, which is the water taxi of Venice, we went all around the city. Then we were dropped off at the apartment we would be staying at for the next 3 days. It was modern, but with older finishes like the wooden beams running across the ceiling and the old wood floors. We dropped off our luggage and went to have our first real Italian meal. We didn’t have to walk very far before finding a little pizzeria. The pizzas we had were tasty, but we had to walk them off. As we sauntered around Venice, I noticed that there were a lot of Venetian glass shops. And tourists. There were many tourists. We went to the Piazza St. Marco, which is the grand place of Venice. It is where the Palace of the Doge is. It was all spectacular. It is amazing what they were able to build such a long time ago, huge monuments with lots of details, carvings and intricate designs. That day, we went all around Venice, on foot. By dinner time, which is when we came back to the apartment, my feet were aching and my sandals had given me blisters. But I think I survived to the next day.

Notre séjour à Venise a été très agréable. Je me languis d’y retourner. Quand nous sommes arrivés, j’ai été totalement ébahie, c’était aussi joli que sur les cartes postales. Le Grand Canal était plein de petits bateaux et de gondoles. Les bâtiments étaient colorés et leurs fenêtres étaient du type médieval. Le plus surprenant était le silence qui régnait dans les rues. Je n’aurais jamais pensé que le manque de voitures ferait une telle différence. Nous avons pris le Vaporeto (bus local sur l’eau!) qui nous a deposé vers notre appartement où nous séjournerons les 3 prochains jours. Il a été refait à neuf avec une cuisine moderne tout en gardant du charme avec des poutres au plafond et du parquet. Après avoir déposé nos valises, nous avons fait notre premier repas italien! Nous n’avons pas eu besoin d’aller très loin pour trouver une bonne pizzéria. Je me suis régalée, le reste de l’après midi nous avons beaucoup marché, et éliminé cette pizza. Il y avait beaucoup de touristes, des tonnes de touristes! En se balançant dans Venise, j’ai remarqué tous les petits magasins qui vendaient de la verrerie, une des spécialités de la ville. Nous sommes arrivés sur la place Saint Marc, elle est gigantesque, et le palais des Doges spectaculaire. C’est impressionnant, ce qu’ils sont arrivés à construire, les détails et la beauté des monuments. Quand on est rentré à l’appart, mes pieds étaient en bouillis! Mais je pense que je survivrais.

The next morning, I was awaken by the incessant ringing of the church bells next to the apartment. They must have rang a good 30 times before finally stopping! That morning we went to the market. There were fruit stands and vegetable stands. Stands that that sold spices and other goods. But the reason we visited the market was for the fish stands. They had all kinds of fish and sea food freshly caught that day. There was octopus and squid in some stands. We walked a lot again and that night, my dad made us pasta with the spices he bought from the market.

Le lendemain matin, j’ai été réveillée par des cloches! Ca a duré très longtemps! Il y avait une église à coté de l’appart. Elles ont dûs sonner au moins 30 fois avant de finalement s’arrêter. Nous sommes allés faire des courses au marché, il y avait des stands de fruits et légumes, d’autres stands d’épices et puis les poissonniers. Sur les stands, il y avait un grand choix de poissons, de fruits de mer, de pieuvres, de calamars etc. Nous avons encore beaucoup marché mais ma mère dit qu’on découvre le meilleur d’une ville en se perdant. Mon père a fait des pâtes avec des ingrédients du marché.

The next day, we went out for lunch again. But my dad went back to the apartment to rest. So my mom, my brother Jayden and I decided to take a different route to explore more of the city. We went back to the Piazza St. Marco, but we actually went inside the Basilica, the interior was magnificent, maybe the most beautiful I have ever seen. The ceilings were covered in golden mosaics. There were mosaics of people, and, if you looked at them from afar, they looked like actual paintings, but not so much up close. The amount of time it would have taken to put all of those individual mosaic tiles in place would have been centuries, since they were in the billions. The view from the balcony on top was stunning. You could see the entire plaza from there! But the interior was more stunning than the view outside. The domed ceilings, the walls, even the floors had intricate marble patterns. Afterward, while we were walking back, we stumbled upon a church with live music. A woman was singing opera while violins played in the background. It was very beautiful to listen to. And since I inferred that we would walk around the whole city yet again, I decided to where my sneakers to hopefully lessen the pain in my poor, aching feet.

Le jour suivant, mon père est resté à l’appart, l’après midi, nous trois nous sommes allés visiter la Basilique de la place Saint Marc. L’intérieur était très beau, le plafond était recouvert de mosaïque dans les tons dorés. De loin on aurait dit des peintures mais en se rapprochant on voyait les petits carreaux de mosaïques. Je suis fascinée par le temps que cela a dû prendre à compléter. La vue de la place Saint Marc depuis les balcons était phénoménale. Le dôme de la Basilique, ses murs, ses portes et son parterre étaient fait de détails d’une grande beauté. Sur le chemin du retour, nous avons écouté de la musique classique et une chanteuse d’opéra dans une église, le son était grandiose. Cette fois ci j’avais mis mes baskets pour sauver mes pieds d’une journée de torture.

Venice was a beautiful city that I cannot wait to return to. The architecture is beautiful, the city is quiet, and it has a rich history. I wouldn’t mind living there when I am older, though those annoying church bells would definitely be a factor taken into consideration. The shops were very nice and I wouldn’t have minded buying a few things in them. Moreover, Venice is a fantastic, and special city, and it is one of my favorite cities that I have ever been to.

J’ai adoré Venise, j’ai hâte d’y revenir. L’architecture est magnifique, la ville est relativement silencieuse et elle a un riche passé. Il ne me déplairait pas d’y habiter quand je serais plus grande. Je choisirais un quartier qui n’a pas trop d’églises! J’ai beaucoup aimé l’atmosphère qui y régnait. Pour le moment je dirais que c’est ma ville favorite.

Jayden’s trip to Venice

When we arrived in Venice, we had to go the station for the Vapporeto (ferry) so we could get to the apartment we rented. We got off the ferry and met the owner of the apartment. She guided us through the apartment and it was very nice. She showed us where to go for good restaurants, the supermarket and the bakery. We found a restaurant, I had a delicious Diavola pizza. We visited Venice, though it was full of tourists, it was very quiet probably because there was not a single car. We saw lots of stores that had Venetian glass (Venice is very famous about their glass art) they are hand blow which means (a man with a long pipe and a superhot oven create the art pieces) I found the glass spiders very cool. And there were lots of masks shops, Venice is famous for its carnival. I also thought that the little animals that were clear glass that had the red fish in them were also very interesting.
The next day I woke up late 9:10. We went to explore the city. Venice is beautiful. There are lots of little venders that sell souvenirs, and lots of selfie pole venders. Every day we walk all around Venice. We had lunch at the apartment and my dad made us Turbot (Turbot is a fish that looks almost exactly like a halibut but smaller) it was the best fish I had ever tasted.

There were lots of octopi in the fish market. Since it was my birthday my parents got me a very cool watch that looks like one of those lego watches but bigger and you press on a button to see the time. It is red. I like it very much, and it’s very practical
On the last day it is raining but we decided to still take a walk until it started raining very hard and we found a little place that kept us from getting wet. The little venders came in the same place I found a very cool pocket knife that had the flag of Italy on it. I bought it as a souvenir from Italy for only 5 euros of my own money. We returned to the apartment and my dad prepared clam linguini for lunch, it was delicious.
The day came for us to leave Venice and go to Florence. I was very sad to leave Venice but we packed our bags and left to take the train to our next destination.

Jayden’s vacation in France August 2015

The first country we visited was France. We have lots of family there. We came to see our grandparents in Soyans, it is a small village in the south east of France. They have a cat named Calypso, when she wants to be she rub against you the falls on her side and waits to be pet. They have a basin that has at least one hundred fishes in it, 5 are giant coi, when they first got them they were 3 inches long now they are 20 inches long.

We saw lots of our cousins. We had lots of fun playing with Alexis and Matis in their grandparent’s pool. We played with Ruben and Gabriel one night and another time Baptiste with his 2 sisters came to. With my parents we visited Kenny and Evan in Grenoble, they have a Wii u and I enjoyed playing super smash bros with him. But fun comes at a price I had to study all about the Romans.

I got a Hex bug from my grandparents that live in Arizona, I had to build it myself for my upcoming birthday.
We went to a medieval festival. I did archery there I have become very good at archery. We saw a parade in the festival it had fire spitters that were very cool to see.

I have a TV show that I like to watch it’s called Fort Boyard its where people usually comedians have to do special tasks like having to walk through snakes, scorpions, lizards and find clues, answer riddles, at the end they earn money for a charity. Some teams are good but some were bad.
We also went to Toulon to visit Daniel and Germaine, there I ate truffle (a very rare and expensive mushroom) the taste was strong but I liked it. We took the boat to visit the island of Porquerolles, we swam but did too much walking.

Time in France was really fun. But sadly we had to leave France, for Italy. We got on the train for Milan. I am writing this blog on the train. We waited at Nice train station for more than an hour. There was a fire on the tracks of the Italian station so we had to take a bus and another train. We arrived very late.

We finally arrive in Milan at 3.30 am! The next day we go to the world expo it was amazing every country build a pavilion for the expo. The theme this year was about food, how to preserve the planet and feed everybody. My favorite pavilion was Ecuador it was made by chains that every ring had a different color. Poland was made by small apple wooden boxes. Thailand was also very cool.

There were these chairs that were designed to go in circles in a diagonal direction. There was the super market of the future it was very cool. Everything was projected on a tablet screen. In the future there will be a machine that will print your food. Israel pavilion was covered in grass, Korea was so cool because two arm robots had T.V’s and they shared a video and they sometimes came together (ex: a video of one had falling vegetables and the other had a pot that the vegetables fell in). For lunch, we ate in the Vietnamese pavilion and for dinner I had a hot dog with a milk shake to celebrate my birthday. We took the metro back to the hotel. Tomorrow we are going to Venice.

Notre premier stop pour le voyage autour du monde est la France. Nous avons beaucoup de famille ici. Nous restons chez nos grand parents, ils habitent un petit village dans le sud est de la France. ils ont une chatte qui s’appelle Calypso. Quand elle veut se faire caresser elle se laisse tomber par terre et attend que l’on vienne la caresser sur le ventre. Il y a aussi un bassin avec de l’eau de source et dedans on trouve des cois ou carpes japonaises. Ils en ont au moins une centaine, 5 d’entre elles sont très grosses, elles doivent faire 65cm. J’ai passe du bon temps avec tous nos cousins. On s’est bien amuse dans la piscine des grand parents de Matis et Alexis. J’ai aussi joue avec Ruben et Gabriel un soir. Et une autre journée j’ai vu Baptiste et ses 2 soeurs. Avec mes parents, on a rendu visite a Kenny et Evan a Grenoble, ils ont une WiiU et j’ai adore jouer a Super Mario Bros avec eux. Mais tout a une fin, car je dois faire aussi des devoirs, un de mes projets d’école était d’étudier les Romains.
Pour mon anniversaire j’ai eu une Hex bug a construire de mes grand parents d’Arizona. Je l’ai construite moi meme (sorte de robot scarabée).
Nous sommes aller a un festival medieval dans un village voisin, Bordeaux pour le 15 aout. J’ai fait du tir a l’arc, je ne suis pas trop mauvais car j’en ai deja fait. il y a eu un defile avec des cracheurs de feux, c’était plutôt cool.
J’aime bien regarder l’emission de tele Fort Boyard quand je suis chez mes grand parents. Les équipes doivent réussir des tests comme mettre la main dans des pots avec des serpents, des scorpions etc, et ils récoltent de l’argent pour une oeuvre de charité. Parfois les équipes sont bonnes parfois elles sont assez nulles.
On est aussi aller a Toulon rendre visite a Daniel et Germaine des amis de mes parents. La bas j’ai goute des truffes, le gout était très fort mais j’ai aime. On a pris le bateau pour visiter l’ile de Porquerolles, on a nage mais on a aussi fait beaucoup trop de marche.
J’ai passé du bon temps en France. Mais il faut partir pour l’Italie. On a pris un train pour Milan. J’écris mon blog dans le train. On a du attendre a Nice pour plus d’une heure. Il y avait un feu sur la voie ferrée juste avant la gare d’Italie. Ils nous ont fait prendre un bus puis un autre train. Nous sommes arrives très très tard dans la nuit a 3h30 du matin!
Le jour d’après nous sommes allés a l’expo universelle qui se tend a Milan. C’était assez spectaculaire, chaque pays (145 au total) a construit son propre pavillon. Le theme de l’expo était comment preserver la nourriture pour nourrir la planète et faire moins de gaspillage. Le pavillon de l’Equateur était mon préfère, il y avait des chaines colorées qui pendaient depuis le top. La Pologne avaient des caisses en bois sur toute la facade. Celui de la Thaïlande était cool aussi. Pour se reposer il y avait des chaises qui tournaient comme des toupies. On a visite un supermarché du futur, dans lequel on pouvait voir la nourriture imprimée en 3 D. Le pavillon de l’Israel était recouvert de vegetation, celui de la Corée du Sud était très moderne avec des bras robotises qui avaient une télévision au bout et qui bougeaient en racontant une histoire. Pour le déjeuner on a mange au pavillon Vietnamien et pour dinner j’ai choisi un hot dog avec un milk shake pour célébrer mon anniversaire. On a pris le metro pour rentrer a l’appart. Demain nous partons pour Venise.

This is it, the day has arrived for my family and I to start our journey. Not long ago, my parents decided to take my brother and me on a 1 year trip around the world. Our first stop is France. Then we are going to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Australia, Fiji, Ecuador, and Peru. But it is not a long vacation off from school. No on the contrary, my brother and I will be homeschool and we will take courses online. I will have to read a book on each country we will be going to and then write an essay on it. I hope to learn new things about the cultures of these countries that I wouldn’t learn in school and try their foods. My personal goal for this trip is to learn at least a little how to speak the languages of the countries we will be going to.

Ca y est le jour de départ pour notre grand voyage est là. Il n’y a pas longtemps, mes parents ont décidé de nous emmener mon frère et moi pour un voyage autour du monde. Notre premier stop est la France. Puis nous irons en Italie, Grèce, Turquie, Thaïlande Cambodge, Laos, Indonésie, Australie, Fidji, Equateur et enfin Pérou. Ce ne sera pas les grandes vacances, en fait on voyagera et on fera aussi l’école en prenant des cours sur internet. Je dois lire un livre sur chaque pays que je vais visiter et faire un rapport. J’espère apprendre de nouvelles choses sur chaque pays, sur leur culture, leur nourriture et plein d’autres choses que l’école ne m’apprendra pas. Je veux revenir en sachant parler un petit peu le language de tous ses pays.

Every summer, I go back to France to visit my family. My dad is American and my mom is French, I am bilingual and part of 2 cultures. Going back there makes me feel happy to be reunited with them because I only get the chance to see them once a year. It felt like our stay in France this summer went by faster than usual, mostly because we stayed for only one month instead of two, but also because we were having such a good time, even if I lost track of days. My grandparents live in a tiny village called Soyans, which is north of Provence. They own a small farm with a big vegetable garden. It was my job to pick the tomatoes and raspberries. They also have a coi fish pond, and some of them are giants! It was both my brother’s and my job to feed them, but since he usually forgot, it ended up being my responsibility alone. I didn’t think that my cousins, which I only see 1 or 2 days a year, changed very much, except for my cousin Emma, I thought that she really changed a lot. We had so much fun with them, but not enough time.

Chaque été, je reviens rendre visite à ma famille. Mon père est américain et ma mère française, je suis bilingue et je fais partie de 2 cultures. Je suis heureuse de retrouver tout ce monde. Je ne les vois qu’une fois par an. Cette année notre séjour m’a paru plus court que d’habitude, peut être prie qu’on est resté qu’un mois au lieu des deux de d’habitude. Mais aussi parce que je m’amusais beaucoup. Mes grand parents habitent un tout petit village appelé Soyans au Nord de la Provence. Mon grand père a un grand jardin avec plein de légumes. Mon travail était de cueillir les tomates cerises et les framboises. Dans un grand bassins ont des carpes japonaises et avec mon frère je devais les nourrir. C’était plus souvent moi que lui car il oubliait souvent. Je n’ai pas trouvé mes cousins trop changés (en fait je ne les vois qu’un ou deux fois par an) sauf Emma que je n’avais pas vu depuis 2 ans. Elle a beaucoup grandi. Je me suis bien amusée avec tous même si c’était trop court.

I went hiking on the tallest mountain in the region with my grandfather, my parents, my brother, and my great uncles, it was about 1,500 meters. Though it wasn’t an overly difficult hike, the wind near the peak was atrocious! I thought that at any moment, I would be blown of the cliff like a leaf. Since we thought it was going to be hot, we came prepared with tank tops and shorts. I think I have never been so cold in my life and I used to live in Massachusetts! Even though the air was cold on top of the mountain, it was blistering hot at my grandparents’ house. I often went swimming with my brother and some friends in my great uncle’s swimming pool. The dryness and heat caused the creek not far from where my grandparents live was practically dry. I was disappointed about that because it had become a sort of tradition to go there with my mom, my brother, sometimes my aunt and my half-cousins on an especially hot afternoon. We also didn’t get a chance to go to the beach near Nîmes, which is where we usually go with my grandparents and my aunt. But one of my major disappointments was that I didn’t get to go to one of my stores, IKEA.

Je suis allée marcher sur la plus haute montagne de la région les 3 becs avec mon grand père, mes parents, frère et deux grand oncles. Ca n’a pas été très difficile, mais il y avait beaucoup de veJnt au sommet! On ne pouvait pas se tenir droit. On a pensé qu’il ne ferait pas froid en haut donc on n’avait pas prévu de gilet , on s’est gelé. heureusement mon grand père m’avait prêté son gilet. Je pense n’avoir jamais eu aussi froid de ma vie et pourtant j’habite au Massachusetts! Quand on est chez mes grand parents il faisait chaud. Je suis souvent allée nager chez des grand oncles qui ont des piscines avec mon frère et des amis. Il y a eu une sècheresse cette année et la rivière vers chez mes grand parents était à sec. C’était une tradition d’y aller chaque année avec ma mère, mon frère et mes cousins les après midi. Nous n’avons pas pu aller en vacance à Bisac près de Nîmes comme chaque année. Et je regrette aussi de ne pas avoir pu aller a Ikea.

Afterward, my parents, my brother and I started our trip by visiting our friends in Toulon, France. Though since we visit them every year, it doesn’t feel very different from the previous times. There, I went swimming with their granddaughter who is my age. We ate at a very nice restaurant with them. We had truffles, pigeon, and langoustine in a saffron mousse. It was absolutely delicious. Then we went to the island of Porquerolles. It is an island off the coast of Toulon. It’s a popular vacation spot but still relatively wild. I might say, we did a bit of excessive walking that day. But it felt really nice to swim in the cool ocean after a long day of walking.
We had a fantastic stay in France, now it is time to leave. I cannot wait to go to Italy, the food, scenery, I want to be there but I don’t want to leave my family behind for possibly 2 more years. Oh well, our trip has to start one day, why not now.

Puis nous sommes descendus sur Hyeres pour rendre visite à des amis, Daniel et Germaine. On y va chaque année, donc pour moi ça fait parti de mes vacances en France. Là bas j’ai nagé avec Ambre leur petite fille qui a mon âge. Ils nous ont emmené au resturant j’ai gouté des truffes, du pigeon et de la mousse aux langoustines. C’était tout très délicieux. Nous avons aussi allé visité l’ile de Porquerolles, très belle ile encore assez sauvage. Nous avons beaucoup marché ce jour là! Ambre était malade la pauvre. Ca m’a fait du bien de nager pour me rafraichir.

Nous avons passé des moments fantastiques en France, maintenant il est temps de partir. Je me languis d’être en Italie, pour la nourriture, les paysages. mais je suis trite de quitter une partie de ma famille pour peut être 2 ans. Je pense qu’il fait qu’on commence notre voyage un jour alors pourquoi pas maintenant .

Venice is a city like no other. No motor cars, it sits over water, it is visited by 20 million people a year, but has a population of about 50 thousand. A city with a gloried past and beauty to spare. Yes it has a ton of tourists, but if not for them the beauty which you see today may not have survived.
Each corner seems to bring a new discovery and getting lost in the streets of Venice is romantic and intoxicating. If you don’t feel the love here, find a new partner. The camera loves Venice and I can’t help but love it back.

Venise est une ville à part. Pas de voitures, sur l’eau, 20 millions de personne, la visite chaque année , mais a seulement une population de 50000. Une cité au passé glorieux et d’une grande beauté mais aussi bourrée de touristes. A chaque coin on découvre quelque chose de nouveau, il faut se perdre dans Venise pour la découvrir romantique.

Central Market Florence, Italy

For all those who care greatly about finding great food, the Central Market in Florence, Italy is a must see. So many different vendors of produce, seafood, meats, cheeses, wines, truffles, spices, etc. Then on the upper levels you have a dozen or so different restaurants and food vendors serving any number of Italian specialties. Love this place, I will return!

Pour tous ceux qui aime manger, le Marché Central de Florence est une étape à ne pas manquer. Au rez de chaussée, c’est le marché à proprement parler et à l’étage plein de petits resto, on a dégusté un risotto aux truffes, manger un steak florentin etc. J’adore cet endroit, j’y reviendrai c’est sûr!

Milan and the World Expo

Departing France was difficult leaving family and friends behind and beginning our trek around the globe starting with Italy. It is not as if I have never been to Italy, but my 15 years in and out of this marvelous country brought me back with the family. This is Melia and Jayden’s first time into Italy and we wanted to make it a memorable journey.
Our first destination had us in Milan for the World’s Fair. Simply amazing! This years Expo is dedicated to feeding the soon to be 9 billion of us all. The architechture or each nations pavilions is stunning, each representing the issues and strengths of each country toward the idea of feeding the world’s populous. Each nations ideas of future farming will hopefully take us into the, well, into the Future. The issues facing the planet are urgent and the problem we face can be potentially dire if not addressed in an expedient manner. Is there any better way to introduce one’s family to the world than to witness the World’s Fair?

Partir de France a été difficile, laissant derrière famille et amis. Mais nous voici en Italy. Je connais bien l’Italie mais c’est la premiere fois que je la fais en famille. Melia et Jayden vont découvrir ce pays et nous voulons que leur expérience soit mémorable. Nous commençons par Milan pour visiter l’expo universelle. Simplement grandiose! Le thème de cette année est dédié à la nourriture et comment nourrir la population qui bientôt attendra 9 milliards. L’architecture des pavillons de chaque pays est exceptionnelle. Chaque nation exprimé à sa manière sa vision de l’agriculture du futur. Les challenges rencontraient pour sauvegarder notre planète et éviter de la voir se degrader plus. Y a t il une meilleure opportunité pour montrer la diversité du monde que de commencer par l’expo universelle?
