As we slowly got through the terrible custom system of Laos I waited impatiently, just took nearly 3h to fill in and get our visa because it is all done manually no computer. When it was all finished we still had to take a Tuk Tuk to the boat. We waited on the boat for a while until every body got on and I got really bored. I was really happy when the boat took off.

Après un passage des frontières entre la Thailande et le Laos laborieux d’à peu près 3H, côté Laos ils faisaient tout manuellement, donc les visas  et le payement ont pris beaucoup de temps, nous avons pu monté dans un Tuk Tuk pour prendre la bateau. Pareil il a fallu attendre encore pas mal de temps que tout e monde arrive et pour ranger tous les bagages. J’ai été content quand nous sommes enfin partis.

A lot of the time I was creating imaginary people on my computer, my favorite was Super grin (just so you know the reason why he doesn’t have a head shape is that he’s invisible) and he lived in the center of the sun.It was nice to cruise the Mekong on a boat instead being on a bus. I was very happy when I got off of our 2 days in a boat from Luang Pra Bang to Vang Vieng. We had to take a Tuk Tuk for 20,000 Lao Kip a person (about $2.50 U.S) which is a lot for here, but there was no way around it. Our hotel was the View Khem Kong Guest house. It was small but enough space and very clean. We decided to go visit the town, it was very peaceful and put your mind at ease. That day we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. I had a beef fried rice I only did it so that I could have a pineapple smoothie that was really good. What I like so much is that the fruits are ripe and not picked green like in Massachusetts. The pineapple is sweet and soft not hard and sour.

Pour m’occuper pendant tout ce temps je créai des personnages de BD sur mon ordinateur avec le système de graphisme, j’avoue que je suis très satisfait de mes créations. C’était mieux d’être sur le bateau même si le voyage prend 2 jours au total. Le Mékong est un fleuve assez paisible même s’il était marron à cause de la pluie. Nous avons été obligé de prendre un tuk tuk pour arriver en ville, ma mère appelait ça la mafia tuk tuk. Notre hôtel était le View Khem Khong, sur la rivière, les chambres étaient assez petites mais très propres et super bien situées. Nous avons mangé au resto de l’hôtel, c’était bon, mon truc préféré était le smoothie à l’ananas. C’était trop bon.

We saw some amazing waterfalls. It was a system a little bit like Pamukkale. It all came down by one waterfall there was lime stone on the bottom and made the water looked bright blue. But the main water fall was the most spectacular water fall I had ever seen. My dad and I swam in a really cool pool that was freezing. We walked up a trail and there was a stream with a strong current but my parents forced me to cross it and I told them there was another one and it would be a bad idea to cross it. The pools were really spectacular. After the entrance there were bears which was cool it explained why they saved them and that they were taking them in to save the from getting their bile extracted. Its really sad to hear what poachers do to bears. One had a leg missing a think he was happy when they took him in because he might not have survive in the wild. There was a humongous spider that was as the top of my forehead to the bottom of my bottom lip.

Une des attractions de Luang Prabang est la cascade de Kung Si. C’est une série de cascade formaient de la même façon que les cascade de Pamukkale en Turquie. Mais ces chutes sont dans la jungle et les couleurs étaient spectaculaires, sans soleil l’eau était d’un bleu presque turquoise. Il y avait pour finir une énorme chute d’eau très très haute. J’ai nagé avec mon père mais l’eau était assez glaciale donc je n’y suis pas resté très longtemps. Nous avons essayé de monter tout en haut de la cascade par un sentier dans la jungle mais le sentier était traversé par un torrent et mes parents nous ont fait rebrousser chemin, la ballade dans la jungle faisait assez Indiana Jones. Une partie de  ce parc était consacré à la sauvegarde des ours à lunettes, ils sont tués car la médecine chinoise préconise des traitements avec la bile produite par ces ours. Il manquait une patte à un ours du centre, il a réussi à être sauvé mais il a perdu sa patte avant. Il y avait de très belles libellules et de très grosses araignées.  

One day we went to a kind of school where Laotian people went to improve their English. The person I was talking too had only been studying English for a month and he could speak pretty well. What really was mind blowing was that he was asking me for the definition of words like Concert hall, welfare and other strange words for a beginner English speaker. It really put an expression on my face like? where did you read this. I found it very cool that we did it, and I learned the Laotian people just don’t really know how to pronounce T’s example bracelet is braceleth. I think I was an incredible experience for me, and I think there English must have improved.

Une matinée nous sommes allés dans un centre qui s’appelle Big Brothers, en fait des jeunes Laotiens viennent là pour améliorer leurs langues étrangères, c’est surtout l’anglais. Tu t’assoies et les jeunes étudiants viennent s’asseoir en face de toi et tu discutes de tout. Parfois ils te demandent des choses parfois c’était moi qui leur demandait des choses. Un des jeunes gens avec qui je parlais venait juste de commencer l’anglais 1 mois avant, il se débrouillait bien. Il m’a demandé de traduire des mots comme Concert Hall, santé surement des mots qu’il avait lu dans un article. J’ai trouvé cette experience très enrichissante, c’est bien si tu peux donner de ton temps pour aider d’autres personnes. J’ai remarqué que les Laotiens ont du mal à prononcer la lettre T peut être parce qu’elle n’existe pas dans leur langue. Je pense qu’il était très content de moi, car il a voulu prendre des photos pour se souvenir de moi. Ca a duré 2 heures, mais tu ne t’arrêtes pas de parler pendant 2H.

We walked across a bamboo bridge, it was made by a family and they can build it only when it is not the rainy season and the water is low. You had to pay to cross it, so the family who but it could make a small living. When we were walking back we visited a shop that had really cool woven scarfs and clothes. We went to their weaving center, you could take classes to make scarfs or weavings. So my sister, mom and I took a natural tie dye scarf class. I think that will be one of my highlights of our trip around ? (not for my dad because he didn’t do the class). First our guide explained the all process of the silk, then he told us to pick which color we wanted our tie dye scarf. I chose red, my mom chose indigo and my sister a light pink. Then the color for our  silk threads to be. I did yellow and indigo. First we had to start by making the natural dye for our threads and scarfs. We started by cutting the jackfruit wood with a very big knife in small pieces. Then my sister and I picked ingredients for our dyes. I picked turmeric for my yellow dye. I had to pull them out of the ground and wash them. Then pound them really hard for a long time which was tiring. For the indigo you had to pick indigo leaves then crush them with water and it turns green, but when you take the silk threads out, the oxygen make it blue. For the tie dye scarfs we tied them in a way that they would form a pattern. My pattern was triangles on the ends and a spider web in the middle. We showed my dad and he was really impressed I think there could be some cool things that I could make with the threads.

Nous avons traversé la rivière sur un pont en bambou, chaque année une famille fait un pont qui ne dure que 6 mois car après c’est la saison des pluies. Ils gagnent de l’argent en faisant payer une petite somme d’argent. En ville nous avons découvert un magasin qui vendait des tissus tissés de très très bonnes qualités comme ils proposaient une visite de leur centre de tissage nous sommes allés y faire un tour. Là un guide nous a expliqué toute la fabrication de la soie et la teinture naturelle avec des produits de la fôret. Nous avons été emballés par le centre et le lendemain avec ma mère et ma soeur nous avons suivi une classe de 3 H de teinture de la soie.Chacun a choisi quelles couleurs nous allions teindre nos écharpes et nos fils de soies. J’ai choisi de faire mon écharpe  rouge et mes fils jaunes et bleus. J’ai dû couper du bois de jackfruit en petits morceaux puis les mettre à bouillir pendant 2 h pour la couleur rouge. Pour le bleu Mélia a récolté des feuilles d’indigo et pour le jaune j’ai déterré des racines de Turmeric. Il a fallu que l’on pille tout ça avec des pilons pour en faire une pâte. L’indigo est vert mais il s’oxyde avec lair et la couleur devient bleue. J’ai bien aimé toute la classe, les différentes techniques et les couleurs que l’on obtenait. J’aime bien mon écharpe je la trouve super cool.  

On that same day we ate at a restaurant called the Coconut Garden I had a Hawaiian pizza that was pretty good, I was surprised that it was that good. We spend time doing homework and walking around town. It did rain for 2 days, it was ok to do a lot of homework. My mom said that there was E.T on TV so we watched it. Some parts are really funny. A lot of times I watch videos on how to draw things, I’ve gotten kind of obsessed with five nights at Freddy’s (a really scary game). There’s an artist that is really good. I wish I could draw like him. What was funny was that there was a leak in our room so we moved to a different one at 10 at night. Fortunately our bags were packed already so it was easy to move.

Pour le lunch nous avons mangé au Coconut Garden, ma soeur et ma mère ont pris une soupe comme il pleuvait mais moi j’ai choisi une pizza hawaïenne et elle était très bonne.De temps en temps c’est bien de changer de la cuisine asiatique. Il a plu pendant 2 jours sans s’arrêter, alors nous avons fait des devoirs, heureusement ma mère nous a dit qu’il y avait ET à la télé donc nous avons fait une pause. J’aime bien ce film il est assez marrant. Parfois sur mon ordinateur je visionne des vidéos qui montrent comment dessiner, il te montre étape par étape et j’apprends beaucoup. Le dernier soir vers 22h nous avons dû changer de chambre car il pleuvait par notre plafond sur le lit de Mélia. Nos bagages étaient fait comme nous partions le lendemain donc nous avons pu le faire facilement.
