When we first arrived in Rome I thought to myself these Romans drive like madmen. They drive very bad, very fast and park everywhere. We were very lucky to find a parking spot near where we stayed. We met the owner of the apartment, her name was Marina and she showed us around town then let us get settled in. Her place was much bigger and nicer than any other of the places we’ve stayed in, it had an actual living room, a nice kitchen, and 2 bedrooms. After we got settled in we took the metro to the Coliseum. It was huge, it was constructed for Titus the successor of Vespasian the Emperor. It is considered one of the greatest works of architecture ever made. My father, sister and I decided to take a visit inside. The Coliseum was very different than the outside. The actual arena is very small considering the games that had to be performed in it. Like Chariot races, gladiator fights, or games where they ordered prisoners in, then let lions enter to kill the prisoners.

Nous sommes arrivés à Rome, et là surprise les Romains conduisent comme des fous! Ils roulent trop vite, se garent n’importe où. Nous avons eu de la chance de trouver une place près de l’appartement que nous avions loué. La propriétaire s’appelait Marina, elle nous a montré le quartier puis nous a laissé les clefs. Son appartement était bien plus grand que tous les autres où nous avons séjourné. Il avait un grand salon, deux chambres vraiment bien. Nous avons pris le métro pour visiter le Colisée. Il était énorme, il a été construit pour Titus le successeur de l’empereur Vespasien. Cet édifice est considéré comme une oeuvre majeure d’architecture. Je l’ai visité avec mon père et ma soeur. L’intérieur était très différent de l’extérieur, il paraissait presque petit par rapport à l’enceinte extérieure. La piste n’est pas très grande par rapport à tout ce qui se passait dedans (course de chariots, bataille de gladiateurs, et même des lions étaient lâchés contre des prisonniers ).

People in Roman times put graffiti by carving the name of their favorite gladiator in the stone, or carving a picture. It was the biggest Coliseum ever built at the time, it could fit 40-70 thousand people.We saw the Forum too, but there are only a few columns still up. So it was hard to see what it was supposed to be. We left by Metro to the central market to get gelato at one of Rome best gelaterias, Baccio. It made me feel like☺, and not like that☹. After that,  we went to see the Pantheon it was very cool. It is the best preserved Roman building. During this trip I am in charge of the Gopro camera. We went inside I took a picture that was straight up at the ceiling.

Les Romains gravaient les pierres à l’intérieur du nom de leur gladiateur préféré. C’est le colisée le plus grand jamais construit à cette époque, il pouvait contenir jusqu’à 70 000 personnes. Nous avons aussi vu le Forum mais il ne reste que quelques colonnes donc il était plus difficile de se faire une idée sur la grandeur des édifices. Après cette visite, nous nous sommes rendus vers le marché central déguster une glace italienne dans l’une des meilleures Gelateria de Rome, Baccio. J’ai adoré. nous avons aussi visité le panthéon, c’est l’édifice Romain le mieux préservé. Durant ce voyage, je ferais les photos avec le Gopro, un appareil photo qui prend des photos ou videos avec un grand angle.

The Gopro allows you to take wide-angle pictures or videos. We only stayed enough time so we could take a few pictures. Then we went to Piazza Navona where there were statues made by Bernini a very famous artist. We continued walking until we reached Campe di Fiori a market where we bought a fruit smoothie that had mango, papaya, oranges, and pomegranate. Back at the apartment I did some of home work, Megawords and maths. The next day we saw The Vatican museums it was very amazing to see. We started touring the Egyptian section which had very interesting things in it like a mummy that we could see. Its face was very ugly and its skin was a very dark brown and had the consistency of leather. They explained how the Egyptians did a Mummy(like take the organs out and put them in jars, and got the brain out with a hook). They had beautiful sarcophagi.

Nous nous sommes promenés place Navona, très connue de forme ovale avec des statues de Bernini. Nous avons bu un smoothie frais au marché Campo del Fiori, fait de mangues, de jus de grenadiers, papayes et oranges. De retour à l’appart, j’ai du faire des devoirs de maths et de grammaire. Le jour suivant, nous avons visité les musées du Vatican. C’était très impressionnant, la visite a commencé par la salle d’Egypte. Il y avait une mommie (il y avait des expliquations sur la momification, comment ils enlevaient les organes, puis le cerveau avec un crochet enfilé par le nez!), des sarcophages, des statues de granites. Tout provenait d’Egypte du temps de l’occupation Romaine.

There were statues of Egyptian gods that were made of granite the hardest rock to sculpt with. All the pieces came directly from Egypt when the Romans had invaded it.  We saw the Sistine Chapel that was painted by Micheal Angelo it was very beautiful, on the first wall he painted a priest that was skinned alive I would have put a picture but since the room was dark you needed to put flash on your camera and if you take the picture it destroys the paintings. Nobody is allowed to take pictures inside this room. The famous picture of Adam almost touching fingers with god is on the ceiling, it means that Adam was the first human and when he touches fingers with god he is giving life to humanity. There were also other sculptures of Micheal Angelo but other rooms. We saw paintings by Rafael too. There was a room that had forty maps of Italy, all painted by hand, finished in only 18 months. In another room, we saw bath tubs made of granite.

Nous avons vu la chapelle Sistine peinte par Michael Angelo, on ne pouvait pas prendre de photos à l’intérieur pour ne pas endommager les fresques. C’est la photo la plus connue entre le doigt d’Adam qui touche presque Dieu (Dieu donne la vie en touchant Adam). J’ai été impressionné par la peinture d’un prêtre dépecé. Il y avait d’autres salles avec des sculptures de Michael Angelo mais aussi des peintures de Rafael autre très grand peintre. Il y avait un couloir avec 40 cartes de l’Italie, tous peints à la main. Il a fallu 18 mois pour finir cette pièce. 

We saw St. Peters basilica it was amazing. The architecture was of stunning statues of popes and their tombs. It had magnificent paintings. The ceiling was incredible just by itself, it was painted and the moldings were painted gold.

Nous avons visité la basilique Saint Pierre. L’architecture était grandiose avec les tombeaux de certains papes et les statues de la vierge. Le plafond était impressionnant, peint et orné de dorures.

It is the biggest basilica ever built. I forgot to tell you how long we waited to get in !!! We queue for 1 hour, but the result was worth the wait. The Pope is guarded by Swiss guard wearing a funny outfit. Our stay in Rome was great but we have to leave for the Amalfi coast.

C’est la plus grande basilique jamais construite. J’ai oublié de mentionner la queue qu’on a du faire pour rentrer dedans, 1 heure!! J’ai beaucoup ralé mais en fait ça valait la peine. Le pape est gardé par les gardes Suisses, ils ont un costume que je n’aimerai pas porter. En route pour la côte Amalfitaine…
