I was relieved when we got off from our long bus ride from Sukhothai. We stayed at an apartment neighborhood called the Urbana 2. I was quite shocked because we were right next to the airport, so it was incredibly noisy and there was a Thai kitchen. The mattress I slept on was like sleeping on the floor except that the floor was cold. The first day we stayed in the apartment and do some homework. The next day was when we visited town. We had to take a small public transportation vehicle that is a little bit like a bus with benches and doesn’t have a back door. In the old city there were lots of temples and street vendors. The temples in Chiang Mai were very antique, they were mostly made of teak wood. It was strange because the Buddha’s had white skin and gold robes, compared from the Buddha’s in Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Bangkok they were stone and gold leaf. We walked around for some more and I got the feel of the town.

Après un long voyage en bus nous sommes arrivés à Chiang Mai, capitale du Nord de la Thailande. Nous logions dans un appartement dans le complexe Urbana 2. Nous étions très près de l’aéroport, le proprio avait oublié de le mentionné donc c’était quand même bruyant la journée de plus nous avions une cuisine Thaï c’est à dire pas très bien équipée. Il y avait 2 lits et moi je me suis retrouvé sur un matelas de 2 cm, c’était presque comme dormir parterre sauf que ce n’était pas froid car le sol était du carrelage. Le premier jour nous avons fait beaucoup de devoirs, et nous nous somme un peu reposés. Le lendemain nous sommes allés dans le centre ville, nous avons dû prendre un bus local, sorte de pick up avec des bancs et un toit. La vieille ville était assez charmante avec beaucoup de vendeurs de rue et de temples. Les temples sont différents de ceux que nous avions déjà visité car ils sont en bois, teck. Et leurs buddhas étaient peints en blancs. Nous nous sommes beaucoup balladés. 

One of the Temples we saw was Doi Suthep. You had to climb a long flight of stairs to reach the temple, I had a hard time hiking up. It’s strange because one of the things I don’t handle very well are stairs I’m very good at hiking mountains, but not stairs. The temple on the top of the stairs had a giant stupa covered in gold. There were lots of paintings around the temple. What I found cool is that you see a lot more creatures and dragons on the temples of Chiang Mai. One of the mystical beasts was very strange. It had a big mouth with a fat body. It had the feet of a dragon and a small tail. There were tiled roofs that were green and red. You could see Buddha’s with a 9 headed dragon like snake behind them. One Buddha was made of amber. Along the sides of the stairs there were dragons. We had scheduled a private car that day that took us to special places in Chiang Mai.

Nous avons visité le temple Doi Suthep en haut d’une montagne avec une jolie vue sur la ville. Il y avait une très grande montée d’escalier, j’ai souffert je n’ai pas de problème pour grimper en montagne mais quand il y a des escaliers j’ai du mal. Tout était en or avec le soleil c’était assez éblouissant. Certains buddhas étaient en résine de couleur ambre ou vert, on pouvait voir la transparence. Mes parents avaient loué un mini van privé donc nous avons fait ce que nous voulions. 

We saw the Karen long neck tribe. If you haven’t heard of it (they are women that put brass rings around their neck) on their birthday they add another one. They weave scarfs to sell to make some money we bought three. The elderly had so many rings that it made their necks very long.

Nous avons vu les femmes giraffes ou de la tribu des Karens. Elles mettent des anneaux autour de leurs cous, à chaque anniversaire elles en rajoutent. Elles tissaient des écharpes et nous en avons acheté 3. Les femmes les plus âgées avaient vraiment beaucoup d’anneaux.

We visited a kingdom of tigers I would never forget. Tiger kingdom was amazing with my sister, mom, I saw the smallest Tigers. They were so cute, and were so soft. You had to approach them from behind. It was so tempting to pet their head but that would be a bad Idea because then they think it means you want to play so they would scratch and bite, but in a playful way. If you pet there stomach like a dog they really liked, they usually dosed off when you did. They slept in strange positions. They were mostly ginormous slightly lazy kittens. My dad saw the big tigers. He said that they weren’t so soft. They were huge. Especially the Siberian tiger’s they were monsters. Just there head was massive probably 3 times the size of mine. The cutest was the newborn he was so small but was much bigger than the usual house cat. They had a lion but he looked like the saddest animal in the world, you could see it in his eyes. They had three white tigers one baby they put him in a cage with another small tiger probably so he wouldn’t be lonely, and the others were adults in another cage. I found it cool that they were white striped brown. One thing I know is that I will never forget my striped friends that I met in Chiang Mai.

Je n’oublierai jamais ma visite au Royaume des Tigres. J’ai pu aller dans la cage des plus petits tigres avec ma soeur et ma mère. C’était encore des bébés qui voulaient jouer, et c’était tellement tentant de caresser leurs têtes mais on nous a expliqué qu’il ne faut pas car ils croient que tu veux t’amuser et ils te mordraient comme ils mordraient leur amis juste pour s’amuser mais ils ont de grandes dents et ils pourraient faire mal. Ils voulaient être caresser sur le ventre comme les chiens, ils sont comme d’énormes chats. Mon père était dans la cage des gros tigres. J’ai vu les tigres de Sibérie ils étaient géants beaucoup plus gros que les tigres d’Asie. Leurs têtes étaient au moins 3 fois la mienne. Il y avait un lion, il avait le regard le plus triste que j’ai jamais vu. Ils avaient aussi 3 tigres blancs, 1 couple et un bébé de 5 mois, leurs rayures sont marrons et pas noires, le bébé était dans un enclos avec un autre du même âge que lui comme ça il avait un ami pour jouer. C’est une journée dont je me rappellerais longtemps.

The festival of lights was one of the most spectacular events I had ever seen. Everybody was setting off floating lanterns. If your lantern got burnt you would have bad luck. Lucky for us we had all successful launches. One of the lanterns had small holes in it so we went better safe than sorry, and didn’t light it up. It was just so cool seeing all the lanterns in the sky, but I didn’t think the fireworks were very necessary. I felt bad for the ones that got their lanterns burnt down, some of the lanterns even got stuck in the trees. The streets were crazy that day. Just trying to get out was an incredibly difficult job, especially with the dumb people that were going with their huge cars. For dinner we had a delicious Pad Thai (a Thai noodle dish). The best Pad Thai that we had had was made by a street vendor.

Le festival des lumières est un spectacle assez que je n’oublierai pas. Tout le monde allumait leurs lanternes de papier quand la nuit est arrivée et le ciel était rempli de milliers d’étoiles. Pour ne pas avoir de malchance il ne faut pas que ta lanterne prenne feu. Ca ne nous ait pas arrivé. Notre dernière lanterne avait un petit trou et nous avons décidé de ne pas l’allumer. C’était magique de voir les lanternes monter dans le ciel. Certains ont eu leur lanterne qui a pris feu, j’espère que ce ne sera pas trop de mauvais présages pour eux. Les rue étaient pleines de gens, il était difficile de circuler.
